American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived today (Monday) for a visit to Israel and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his office in Jerusalem.
Upon his arrival in Israel, Blinken called for a calm in the security situation: "All parties should act to restore calm and stop the violence and escalation that resulted in the loss of Israeli and Palestinian lives."
Blinken landed in Israel after a visit to Egypt, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen welcomed him in Israel.
Blinken first met with Netanyahu in an extended meeting and later privately.

On Thursday, US Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs Barbara Leaf said at a press briefing that the secretary is expected to discuss the administration's plan for the justice system.
"This issue has sparked a lively discussion in Israeli society and this is indicative of a vibrant democracy. Blinken would like to hear both from inside the Israeli government and from outside the government what they think about this program," she said.
About a week and a half ago, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan visited Israel and met with President Herzog and Netanyahu.
