Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said today that the United States cannot demand communication and cooperation from China while it continues to interfere in our internal affairs and harm our interests.
Xinhua quoted Mao as saying at a press conference that in terms of developing relations with the United States, China follows the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, but remains committed to defending its sovereignty, security and development interests at the same time.
Mao added that her country does not shy away from competition, but we are against considering competition the most prominent feature in the entire Sino-US relations and using it as a pretext to contain and suppress others, expressing her country's readiness to conduct contacts and cooperation with the Americans in a bilateral or pluralistic framework on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Mao's statement came after the US State Department spokesperson repeatedly referred to Blinken's upcoming visit to China, saying his team would discuss with China how to "responsibly manage competition and strengthen cooperation on cross-border challenges" and also raised concerns over issues related to Taiwan, fentanyl, Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula.
