Evo Morales and his link to the protests in Peru: "If I were, I would be received by the people as an acclamation"

2023-01-30T14:41:04.776Z

"It would be a proclamation," he challenged, when he is prohibited from entering the Andean country for "interference in internal affairs."

Out of Bolivian government for more than three years, in what he and his supporters like to call a "coup,"

Evo Morales

was thrown down into the mud in November 2019 after trying to stay in power for up to a year.

fourth term and manipulate the 2019 presidential vote, as detected by the OAS.

Now, the former president is traveling through the region with the project of a Plurinational America of Peoples,

RUNASUR

.

And Peru, sunk in its own crisis, seems to be fodder for the Bolivian's plans.

With that same project under his arm, he visited Buenos Aires on the occasion of the CELAC summit.

As soon as January began, the Peruvian government prohibited the entry of Evo and eight other Bolivian citizens, accused of having carried out

"proselytizing political activities"

that affected "the national security of the country."

As the Peruvian Ministry of the Interior explained at the time, foreign citizens of Bolivian nationality had been detected in recent months who "entered the country

to carry out activities of a political proselytizing nature

. "

This, according to the ministry, "constitutes a clear impact on our immigration legislation, national security and the internal order of Peru."

While he did not provide details about what kind of specific activities these Bolivian citizens engaged in, all of them, including Morales, were barred from entering Peru through

all immigration checkpoints.

For Boluarte, it was clear that Evo was intervening in the internal affairs of Peru, where since the dismissal of Pedro Castillo, who was also ousted after trying to close Congress, there has been a situation of growing violence, with

a balance of fifty dead.

As early as November 2021, Evo had been declared persona non grata in Peru "for his

negative political activism in Peru

and his obvious interference and meddling in the government's agenda" of Castillo.

Also this January, the Peruvian prosecutor's office received a complaint from an ultra-conservative congressman against Morales, whom he accuses of the

alleged commission of crimes against national security and treason,

in the modality of "attack against national integrity."

Is Morales accused of

instigating the protests

seeking the resignation of Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress, the call for elections and even the call for a constituent assembly?

The protests began in southern Peru, lands loyal to Castillo and bordering Bolivia, and then advanced to Lima last week to take center stage.

Evo applauded by the masses

Evo Morales is convinced that if he sets foot in Peru he will be hailed as a hero.

Defiantly, he said this Sunday that if he were to visit, he would be received by

the "real people" as in a "proclamation"

of candidacy, that is, in a massive way, and he considered that "small groups" are those who do not want him in that country.

In a program on the Kawsachun Coca radio station, Morales referred to the issue while talking about his party, the Movement for Socialism (MAS), which, he pointed out, made "a lot of history" and for that reason it is recognized in

countries like Argentina and Peru.

"Some small groups taking advantage of the press (go) declaring me persona non grata, (they say that) Evo should not enter Peru, but the real people, people, what would it be like if he entered Peru?

Can you imagine at this moment?

It would be an acclamation, like a proclamation," he said.

Evo admitted having had contact with the Peasant Confederation of Peru (CCP), the National Agrarian Confederation (CNA), the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) or unions in areas such as Quillabamba.

The former Bolivian president maintained

an active presence in Peru,

especially in the southern regions of the country, during the Castillo government (2021-2022) with the aim of

encouraging the integration of regions

such as Puno into the Runasur project, the international platform of social movements and indigenous people that it promotes.

According to Morales, some Peruvians told him: "We rise up like you, that's what they say, especially in western Peru, the ignored people."

And he added that Peruvians seek him to share

"struggle experiences"

for social demands and also "public management" because

the MAS government "is known and recognized throughout the world."

Outside of Peru, sign in the networks

Morales will not be able to enter Peru, but he continues to throw gasoline into the flames from social networks.

He posted on Twitter about the crisis in the neighboring country and

defended those mobilized against the government

of Dina Boluarte, who "are leading the peaceful fight against the genocide in Peru" and "are not asking for a guerrilla or a civil war."

"They ask for a peaceful solution to the historical problems of exclusion and exploitation of their natural resources through a Constituent Assembly," he said.

"We reiterate our request to the international community, human rights organizations and friendly countries to unite their voices to call for

an end to the inhuman repression

against our Peruvian brothers. That the sacred right to life be preserved," he added.
