Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana visited the Galilee landscape last week and was moved to receive from the mayor, Ronan Plot, a mezuzah house prepared for him by students of a local school for special education "Kesht".
"This mezuzah house is made from the trunk of an olive tree that grew in the Galilee landscape. It expresses our ability to grow and be strong, to fulfill every dream," the students wrote on the parchment attached to the mezuzah house.
Amir Ohana placed in his office a mezuzah that special education students had prepared for him
The teacher Itzik Pinto, who accompanies them in the carpentry classes, noted that a large part of the students manage to integrate into society, finish 12 years of study and enlist in the IDF: "They give you the mezuza house because you are an example and a role model for them, a leader above your age," said the teacher Pinto.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana was very moved and promised to place the mezuzah in his office in the Knesset. He even invited the school students to visit the Knesset and see their handiwork installed on the door frame of the office, but at the end of the visit the students believed that he would surely forget his promise and continue with his important matters.
But the Speaker of the Knesset did not forget. Ohana kept his promise and sent the mayor a photographic record of the installation of the new mezuzah in his office. We believed that the speaker of the Knesset would really use our gift, it's amazing!", the students told teacher Pinto, who is already planning the visit to the Knesset together with his students.
