The head of the Central Weather Forecasting Center in Damascus, Shadi Jawish, confirmed that the effectiveness of the depression, which affected the country since yesterday, will continue until next Thursday.
In a statement to SANA's reporter, Jawish stated that the depression extends in all layers of the atmosphere, and is accompanied by a cold and moist air mass. Its impact began yesterday on the northern coastal areas with relatively weak effectiveness, and its peak will be from tomorrow, Tuesday, until Wednesday night, and the heaviest rainfall will be in the coastal areas.
Regarding the snowfalls, Jawish pointed out that it is expected that tomorrow it will be at heights of more than 1,500 meters, and with the progress of the arrival of cold air, the snowfall may decrease on Wednesday to 1,200 meters, indicating that it is unlikely that precipitation will occur in areas below 1,000 meters. , including Damascus and some interior regions.
Jawish warned of a sudden drop in temperatures, as it is expected that the temperature will drop from this evening below the average by about 3 to 4 degrees in some areas, calling for caution against the activity of wind speeds that are expected to exceed 85 kilometers per hour during the day, especially In the southern, central and western regions.
According to Gawish, torrents are formed in valleys and slopes during the days of depression, due to the abundance of precipitation, especially in coastal areas, in addition to the formation of ice and frost next Friday morning in large areas of the country, as a result of the low temperature.
