The Starnberg clinics have significant deficits - also due to the pandemic.

The district, which is itself clammy, is now pumping 20 million into ongoing operations.

More money could come soon.

Starnberg – For the first time in 16 years, the district has to step in financially as the sponsor of the Starnberger Kliniken holding.

So far, however, it was not clear with what amount.

In an interview with Starnberger Merkur, district administrator Stefan Frey has now named the sum of 20 million euros that the district is providing for the running costs in the clinics - including in Starnberg, Seefeld and Herrsching.

Whereby: The financially badly battered district only borrows the money from the bank.

Just like a cash loan of 30 million euros, which Frey also reported on.

Funds that the district has secured for further running costs.

"We were very economically strong for a long time, but the pandemic hit us really hard": With these words, Dr.

Thomas Weiler, Managing Director of the Starnberg Clinics, declared the financial crisis at the end of November.

The Starnberg hospital is broadly positioned, especially in severely underfunded areas - in the children's clinic, obstetrics or emergency care.

That's why Weiler hopes for the nationwide reforms in the healthcare system, that there will be more upfront costs and that the case flat rates will no longer drive clinics to lucrative interventions.

120,000 euros donation for Starnberg Children's Hospital

Meanwhile, the support group of the hospital has good news for the Starnberg Children's Hospital these days.

A central monitor system is needed there to monitor the young patients - mainly because of staff shortages (we reported).

Head physician Prof. Thomas Lang calculates the investment at around 150,000 euros - money that he cannot expect from the district because it only compensates for deficits.

He hopes to get the sum from the support group.

120,000 euros in donations have been collected since the call was made in December, reports the chairman of the support group, Karl Roth, when asked.

In addition, a donor promised a further 10,000 euros by telephone.

"The entire board of directors is absolutely delighted with the abundance of donations," says Roth.

"We expected a maximum of 100,000 euros." The money comes from "foundations and individuals".

Up to 14 rooms in the children's clinic are to be technically re-equipped and wired.

Nursing staff should be able to see all of the patient's health values at a glance from the ward room.
