Martín Tetaz: "If we do not agree with Milei, we will be as functional to Kirchnerism as he is"

2023-01-30T01:34:46.428Z

The economist from Together for Change insists on closing a deal with his libertarian colleague to turn the Buenos Aires election into a ballotage against Axel Kicillof.

Two years after his appearance on the front page of politics,

Martín Tetaz

wants to be governor of the province of Buenos Aires.

He does not hide his intention, and that is why he reinforced his campaign on the Atlantic Coast by jogging through the different spas, in what his team called "100 kilometers for the future."

However, he has no problem recognizing that he will only be a candidate if he emerges as the best option within radicalism to be in the Together for Change coalition.

And he puts that force ahead in order to achieve what seems to be his main objective:

beat Axel Kicillof

.

– Several looked at him badly after asking Javier Milei to join Together for Change

- It is that many were left with a title, rather than with the proposal that I really made.

I explained to everyone I spoke to afterwards what I had said and they said "you're right".

What we propose is not to add Milei to Together for Change.

No way.

He talks about a project in which there is no State and that does not exist anywhere in the world;

he wants to privatize education and we don't.

- So, what was the proposal he made?

- What we propose is an institutional agreement to turn the October elections into a ballotage, which the province of Buenos Aires does not have.

It may happen that Kicillof wins the election with 38% of the votes and a 62% negative image.

And in this context, the 10, 12 or 15 points scored by the candidate chosen by Milei in the Province may be enough to make us lose.

The agreement is more convenient for no one than Milei, because he says that he is going to win, for which reason his candidate would go hand in hand with Kicillof if he wins the internship.

If he does not accept, it is clear that he wants to lose and for Kicillof to win the Province again.

- Is Milei functional to Kirchnerism, is she a Trojan horse?

- Yes, but... I make a clarification.

The same can fit for us.

Many could tell us that the fact that we do not find an agreement with Milei also makes us functional to Kirchnerism.

It would be arrogant of me to tell you that only Milei is the functional one.

Doesn't it seem like a logical option to force a ballottage in the Province? With a PASS as the first round?

If there is someone who has a better solution than me, please bring it.

I prefer that the votes be taken by Milei and not by Kirchnerism.

- Can't the libertarian variant within Together for Change be provided by Espert?

- It would be very interesting to have more figures that represent your ideas in Together for Change.

But the reasoning of adding Espert would work if the election was split, which is something that is not going to happen.

In marketing, it's called the "Stock Break Test": if you can't find Coca Cola on the shelf, you go and grab Pepsi, so it would be the same thing to say that if you can't find Cristina, you go and vote for Kicillof.

With Milei and Espert something similar could happen.

But if Milei plays outside, in the Province, even if she puts Piñón Fijo as a candidate, with all the respect that Piñón deserves, she will score a floor of 10 or 12 points that will make us all lose.

- If Kicillof has such a highly negative image, why does he lead the polls in the Province when the campaign has not even started?

- Look, for me the pollsters are going to get a very big surprise in the Conurbano.

There are things that are not recorded by the surveys carried out within Kirchnerism, most of them online.

I toured the entire Conurbano in December and people are very tired.

Inflation of 95% killed the workers in the informal sector, there are people who live with $80,000 per month;

Explain to me how someone can live like this.

I believe that Kirchnerism is going to lose in the Conurbano because the fact that they are with 37 or 38 points of voting intention positions them as one of the worst historical elections in the Province.

- Are you the candidate that has to emerge from Together for Change?

- We do construction exactly the opposite of what the old policy does.

We go where the people are, we visit all the beaches with proposals.

The candidacy comes later.

I am only going to be a candidate if I am the most competitive within radicalism, because I believe that someone has to emerge from within the party to push Together for Change as happened with Facundo Manes in '21.

In the City we are going to win.

but in the rest of the provinces it is probable that we will add governorships as well.

- Does Martín Lousteau win in the City?

- For me, Martín is the best positioned candidate, without a doubt.

Although this is dynamic and you should not rest on your laurels.

The other candidates in Juntos por el Cambio are also very good, but Martín is the best because he reflects the growth of radicalism that we have been talking about.

- You want to compete in the Province, but you are a deputy for the City.

Is this dilemma no longer a problem as at other times?

- I am from the city of La Plata, everyone knows it.

For professional reasons, I have lived in the Capital for six years, but I am from Buenos Aires.

The illusion that General Paz divides us belongs only to politicians.

In real life, people work in the AMBA and there are three million people who live in the Conurbano and commute to work in the City.

I don't get involved in that discussion, it doesn't make sense.

Kicillof himself was a deputy for the City and today is governor.

I did not hear anyone asking for explanations.

- What relationship do you have with the leaders of the PRO?

- Mine is a strange case, because I have an excellent relationship with everyone.

I speak with Mauricio Macri and with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta as well.

The other day I ran into Patricia Bullrich in Santa Clara and I got out to defend her because there were resentful Kirchnerists who were insulting her.

I also have a very good relationship with María Eugenia Vidal, with Diego Santilli and with Cristina Ritondo.

People do not distinguish between the PRO and the UCR, people want the seal of Juntos.

He tells us "stop fucking around with the fights and egos, and please go together."

- What is your assessment of this first semester of Sergio Massa as Minister of Economy?

- I am very disappointed.

I thought that Massa, because of his eagerness to be a candidate for President, was going to implement a change in the economy.

What he ended up doing was the Guzmán Plan, relying on lowering energy subsidies, but without changing anything in terms of money.

He did not solve any of the four great problems of the economy: neither the monetary one, with ever higher inflation;

nor the tax;

he also did not make an adjustment of the State in the privatized companies;

and he did not face a labor emergency law to end the social plans.
