CHRONICLE - Europe's stall in the geopolitical field is the result of a long series of missed opportunities.


In July 2007, in Dakar, a French president criticized Africans for not having made history.

A French citizen could today wonder if France and Europe are not in the process of leaving history.

No one in the vast world, from Dakar to Nairobi, from Shanghai to Bombay, from Rio to Toronto, is really interested in what European leaders can say anymore.

The last time a European speech really caught the world's attention was that of Dominique de Villepin, in February 2003, from the United Nations podium.

It is true that in urging the Anglo-Saxons to give up their plan to invade Iraq, the French minister had shown courage, independence of mind and vision, three qualities which have become relatively rare in the Old Continent.
