The Slovenian prosecutor's office announced on Monday January 30 the opening of an investigation against two foreign nationals, Russians suspected of spying on behalf of their country according to the media.

Investigations are underway against the two suspects who were arrested on December 5,
" prosecutor Katarina Bergant told AFP, declining to provide further details.
Members of Russian intelligence
According to the local daily
Delo
, which revealed the case, they are members of Russian military intelligence (GRU).
To cover their actions, they had created a real estate and antiques company, in modest premises in the center of the capital Ljubljana, under false identities.
One of them holds an Argentinian passport.

Like many of its European neighbors, Slovenia, a small Alpine country member of NATO, expelled 33 Russian diplomats in April after the discovery of massacres attributed to Russian forces near kyiv.
Born from the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, it is unaccustomed to this type of spy scandal.
