Demonstrators against the pension reform will again beat the pavement in Bordeaux, Tuesday, January 31 from noon.

Several disturbances are to be expected in the Gironde capital, with schools closed and transport disrupted.

The weather promises to be milder than during the first demonstration on January 19, when the demonstrators marched for several hours in the rain.

Route of the event

This time, the march will start from Place des Quinconces and not from Place de la République.

The choice of one of the largest pedestrian squares in Europe as the starting point for the mobilization is not insignificant, it testifies to the ambition of the organizers to exceed the number of demonstrators already gathered in the streets of Bordeaux on January 19 .

They were then 60,000 according to the unions and about 16,000 according to figures from the prefecture.

The trip will be shorter on Tuesday.

The mobilization will begin at 12 p.m. on the Place des Quinconces, the procession will descend towards the Garonne and will follow the quays to the Cours d'Alsace-et-Lorraine and Rue des Frères Bonie.

The walk will then go up Cours d'Albert and Rue Nancel Penard to Place Gambetta, before taking Cours Clemenceau to Place Tourny.

The event will finally go to the Place de la Comédie and will join the Quinconces again by the course of July 30, to close the route.

Public transport disrupted

For the moment, 16% of Bordeaux Métropole transport agents have declared themselves to be on strike.

TBM therefore foresees “

disturbed traffic for the day

”.

Traffic will be normal for tram A but the frequency of passage of trams B, C and D will be extended (one passage every 7 minutes 30 and every 15 minutes on the extensions).

On the other hand, several bus lines will not run on January 31 (liane 12, lines 20, 26, 29, 31, 41, 42, 72 and 87) and some will have their frequency adjusted: 30 minutes during peak hours for line 23 and 20 minutes for line 24. Some departures will be canceled on lines 25, 32, 49, 71 and 90. The other lines should run normally, but disruptions are possible from noon until the middle of the afternoon.

School closures and blockades of high schools

About forty schools in Bordeaux closed their doors on the first day of the strike, January 16.

The details of the closures of January 31 will be communicated by the town hall this Monday in the afternoon.

Disturbances are also possible in the 42 Bordeaux high schools.

A "

call for the blocking of all establishments in the country

" was launched by the high school student inter-union, which nevertheless specifies that "

in the event of a massive strike in a high school which would make blocking superfluous

", the unions are calling "

to regroup to going directly to a demonstration

" alongside the teachers.
