A 32-year-old resident of Atlit named Aviv Ezra was summoned this week (Saturday) for questioning by the police and allegedly took a weapon belonging to an officer at the station that he found in the bathroom while waiting.

After inquiries and tests that began at the police station - he returned the weapon and an investigation was opened.

"An investigating officer has been appointed to examine the circumstances of the case," the police said.

The investigation revealed that Ezra went into the bathroom at the Zebulon station in the north while he was waiting for the interrogation, found a discarded weapon there, apparently belonging to one of the officers and hid it outside the building.

After the theft was discovered, special forces were called in and blocked the exit from the place.

The suspect was pressed, admitted to the act and returned the weapon.

An appeal against his release was accepted in court, and his detention was extended until Wednesday.

"Apparently the police are trying to hide some kind of omission by arresting him," says attorney Tomer Neve, who represents Ezra, to Walla. "There is no doubt that this is an unusual incident, where for the purpose of investigation the suspect arrived at the Zebulon station, and while he was waiting outside he entered the convenience store and discovered a gun." Through his lawyer he claims that "he had no intention of stealing, and that the gun was there dumped in the bathroom and in the end he was the one who brought the gun to the police and he was the one who fully cooperated."

The police investigation department has been continuously investigating the incident since the beginning of the investigation and Neve says that "as soon as the conclusions are reached, if they are in favor of the suspect, in my estimation, he will be released in such a case."

According to him, "under such circumstances there is room to open an investigation through an investigating officer and we will ask the investigating unit to do so."

The police said: "Following a report about a police officer serving at the Zebulon station who forgot his personal weapon in the bathroom at the police station, the police opened an investigation. The suspect in the act was arrested yesterday, and led the police to the location of the weapon. Following the incident, an investigating officer was appointed to investigate the circumstances of the case."
