British media reported on January 29 that Hong Kong people in the UK sent a letter to British Home Secretary Suella Braverman regarding the public order bill submitted by the British government, calling on her to reconsider the controversial measures in the bill.
According to The Guardian, the letter, written jointly by Hong Kongers and East and Southeast Asian communities, mentions that the public order bill contains certain repressive measures that threaten to paralyze entire social movements, including "seriously disrupting Prevention Order (SDPO) and Stop and Search, which threaten the right of Hong Kong people to protest in the UK, including protests against the Chinese Communist Party's crackdown in Hong Kong.
The report pointed out that they compared these measures with the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" and described SDPO's conditions as open-air prisons.
The letter read: "Many of us are Hong Kong people who have recently arrived in the UK or represent (them), and work with them. (These Hong Kong people) want a better life for themselves and their loved ones. Our rights and freedoms can be exercised without fear".
