The couple heats up the sauna and goes for a walk - when they return, it's on fire

In Upper Bavaria, a sauna caught fire when a couple was walking.

When they returned, the house was already smoking.

Königsmoos – Going for a refreshing walk in the winter cold and then warming up in the sauna at home – that was probably the plan of a couple from Königsmoos, in the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, in Upper Bavaria.

But it turned out differently than expected – when the two returned, it was smoking from their house.

Probably a technical defect: the sauna is on fire

As the police announced on Sunday, January 29, the couple left their house in Königsmoos on Saturday, January 28 at around 2:30 p.m.

Previously, they had heated up their sauna located in the bathroom.

When they later returned from their walk, they saw smoke coming from their bathroom.

The 67-year-old owner immediately went into the house to check on things.

But he quickly saw in the bathroom that the sauna was already on fire.

The couple then informed the rescue control center.

Spouses treated as a precaution in the hospital - the house is currently not habitable

Because the man initially tried to extinguish the fire himself, he contracted smoke gas intoxication, according to the press release from the Upper Bavaria police.

He therefore had to be treated in the hospital afterwards, where his wife was also examined as a precaution.

However, both were able to leave the hospital on the same day.

Although the fire quickly spread to adjacent rooms, thanks to the fire brigade's efforts, it was confined to the ground floor on the eastern side of the building.

The fire caused property damage of 100,000 euros.

The couple's house was no longer habitable.

The cause of the flames is currently a technical defect.
