Pope Francis begins an African journey on Tuesday which must first take him to the Democratic Republic of Congo, until Friday, then to South Sudan.
He must return to Rome on Sunday evening.
This trip should have taken place in July 2022, but it had been canceled at the last minute following, officially, François' knee problems, but security issues had weighed.
At 86, still disabled, François did not want to betray his promise to come to South Sudan, in particular, a country for which he is personally involved for peace.
An agreement was signed in Rome in 2020, but little respected since.

bowed down to President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar of South Sudan to…kiss their feet.
