Simulation of an attack on an underground Hamas rocket production site, January 27, 2023 (IDF spokesperson)
The two suspects who were shot last night after crossing from Syrian territory to Israel in the Golan Heights were not terrorists - this is what the IDF spokesman announced this morning (Monday).
Last night, IDF forces shot two armed men who approached the perimeter fence in the southern Golan Heights.
According to the IDF's assessment, the two were Hezbollah operatives who had arrived to carry out an attack. The fighters who rushed to the scene shot them during a suspicious arrest procedure, one of them was killed by the shooting, the other was wounded but escaped. There were no casualties among the IDF soldiers.
Now, from a preliminary investigation by the IDF, it has emerged that apparently this is not a sabotage activity. The IDF spokeswoman stated that "the incident is being investigated."
The IDF refused to detail how the procedure for arresting a suspect was carried out and whether the suspects heard them being called and warned before shooting. A military source said that these questions are under investigation.
