The Ministry of Culture and the Arab Writers Union mourned the writer and poet Shawky Baghdadi at the age of 93.
Al-Baghdadi, who was born in Banias in 1928 AD, participated in the founding of the current Arab Writers Union and was a member of the Union Council in most of its sessions until he was chosen after the Union elections in 1995 as a member of the Executive Office and assigned to him the position of editor-in-chief of the monthly “Literary Position” magazine issued by the Union.
Shawqi Al-Baghdadi graduated from the University of Damascus holding a degree in Arabic language and literature, and a diploma in education - he worked as an Arabic teacher all his life in Syria and five years in Algeria.
Among his books: “More than One Heart 1955”, “Every Love Has a Story” 1962, “Poems You Don’t Love” 1968, “A Voice the Size of a Mouth”, “Between the Pillow and the Neck 1974”, “Layla Without Lovers, Very Short Poetry Stories 1981”, “From Every Orchard” A collection of poetry anthologies 1982, “The Return of the Beautiful Child 1985,” “The Vision of John the Damascene 1991.”
He also wrote a number of poetic books for children, including: “The Bird of Paradise – Tales and Songs for Children 1982,” The Moon Above the Roofs 1984, and in the short story: “A Profession Called Dreaming 1986, Sometimes He Spits Blood 1954, Her House at the Bottom of the Mountain 1978, A Path to the Top.” And in the novel: “The Traveler 1994” and many others.
