A man who was driving a stolen motorcycle threw himself into the riverbed of the Riachuelo, in the Buenos Aires district of Lanús, when
he felt cornered by the policemen
who were chasing him, although he was finally arrested.
The man
was referred to a hospital for ingesting contaminated water
, police sources reported Monday.
It all started when the Lanús Police was at the
intersection of Gral Olazabal and Pellegrini streets,
in the area of the banks of the Riachuelo height Lanús.
There he observed the driver of a motorcycle who was not wearing a helmet or license plate, which is why they asked him to stop the march.
The suspect
ignored the request for identification and fled
, so the officers began to follow him for 15 blocks until they reached the intersection of Osorio and Pellegrini streets at the rise of the Olympic Bridge in the direction of Capital Federal, where the man
got off the motorcycle and continued the escape on foot.
It was at that moment that, upon seeing the proximity of the police personnel,
the man threw himself into the Riachuelo with the aim of swimming across to the side of the Federal Capital
but he could not arrive so he had to be helped by the Firemen, who with a rope managed to bring him to the shore.
Moments later -according to the spokespersons- a SAME ambulance attended the man who had to be transferred to the Evita de Lanús Hospital where he remains hospitalized due to ingesting contaminated water.
Finally, the motorcycle used by the detained man is a red Honda CB model and
had an active kidnapping order from
the City Police on January 10 of this year for robbery.
The Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 7 of Lanús-Avellaneda intervened in the case.
