The Government of Chile decided shortly after the arrest of Jones Huala to request the immediate extradition of the leader of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM).
Shortly after he was arrested in El Bolsón, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) changed its blue alert status to red, so that he can be extradited.

Meanwhile, the local prosecutor's office in Río Bueno verified the background and requested the extradition of Jones Huala "so that he can serve the sentence that is still pending and that he is a fugitive," said the chief persecutor of the commune, Sergio Fuentes, according to the Emol website of the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.
Hours after his arrest, Interpol changed the status of the blue alert to red, leaving the path clear for his extradition.
According to official information, the arrest of Jones Huala took place after a several-month investigation carried out by the Rio Negro security force, which found him "hiding in the barbecue area of a neighbor's house in the La Esperanza neighborhood."

Along these lines, he explained that the Ministry of Security and Justice of Río Negro, in charge of Betiana Minor, is already processing the entire procedure so that Jones Huala can be extradited to Chile.
Jones has been imprisoned since 2018 in the Chilean Temuco prison, located 613 kilometers from Santiago and, since then, there have been various protests to demand his release.
Last year, the Temuco Court of Appeals accepted an appeal for amparo filed by his defense, after which his conditional release was ordered.
