Oral Zoit was convicted of manslaughter after shooting to death Yuri Podovni in 2019. In addition to the prison sentence, Zoyt will pay compensation of NIS 258,000 to the victim's family

The District Court in Tel Aviv today (Tuesday) sentenced Oral Zoit, a 28-year-old Holon resident who shot and killed Yuri Podovni during an argument over parking in 2019, to 26 years in prison.

In addition to the prison sentence, Zoyt will pay NIS 258,000 in compensation to the victim's family.

In March 2019, the prosecutor's office filed an indictment against Zoit for the crime of murder, but the Magistrate's Court acquitted him of this crime and convicted him of the crime of manslaughter.

In addition, he was also convicted of aggravated assault, weapons offenses and other violent offences.

The indictment revealed that a fight broke out between Podovni, 50 years old, and Oral Zoit, his father and brother over the place where the manager of the store where Podovni worked chose to park.

Later, Zoyt pointed a gun at the center of Podobny's body and shot him at close range.

After he collapsed, Zoyt's father, his brother and himself beat Podovni - the latter fled and the father stayed to call for medical assistance.

The panel of three judges then determined that the prosecution failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zoyt intended to murder Podovni.
