Almeida and Villacís meet in an office on the fifth floor of the Madrid City Hall at the request of the deputy mayor

The deputy mayor has explained to the mayor the events of the last few days. The meeting lasted 15 minutes and was at the request of the leader of Ciudadanos in Madrid

José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Begoña Villacís met this afternoon for 15 minutes in the office that the deputy mayor has on the fifth floor of the Cibeles palace.

The mayor of Madrid and the deputy mayor of the capital of Spain have held their first meeting after EL PAÍS revealed last Friday that the leader of Ciudadanos in Madrid is considering joining the ranks of the PP.

The last time they saw each other's faces and had a conversation was last Thursday at the government meeting.

The meeting this Monday, according to sources from both parties, has been "very cordial."

Villacís and Almeida have spoken "of the events of recent days".

The same sources point out that Villacís has not asked Almeida to join the ranks of the PP in the City Council.

The Villacís movement, however,

is key to clearing your political future.

As popular sources pointed out this week, if the vice mayor wanted to go on Almeida's lists, she would have to call the headliner from her lists first.

The meeting took place after the end of the first plenary session of the year at the Madrid City Hall, in which Villacís preferred to remain silent throughout the day.

He has not appeared before the press, despite being the focus of the news from the outset.

However, to questions from journalists, Almeida did respond to the uncertain future of Villacís: “I have nothing to add to what I already said yesterday on this matter.

The only thing I can say is that this government will continue to work as it has been up to now, and the people of Madrid can be sure that both Villacís and Almeida will continue to work in the same way”.

Last Monday —the 23rd—, Villacís met with the general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, as

EL MUNDO advanced

also at the request of the deputy mayor with the idea of negotiating his entry into the popular ranks.

"He asked to go to the PP without further ado," sources from Genoa explain to EL PAÍS.

After the meeting with Almeida, the same sources reveal that the doors to go on the Madrid lists are not completely closed despite the resistance of the president of the Community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to the Madrid vice mayor presenting herself in the candidacy to the City Council by the Popular Party.

Bendodo demanded that Villacís "talk to the mayor" before reaching an agreement.

And in the team of the general coordinator of the PP they are now waiting to know the content of the meeting this Tuesday in Cibeles.

“If it was up to the mayor, it could be.

But Ayuso does not want to.

And Almeida is not going to face Ayuso.

Now, everything can happen, things can evolve.

The problem is that Begoña is doing it completely wrong ”, add other sources from the PP leadership.

The offer on the table, for now, is for Villacís to agree to go with the PP in the general elections at the end of the year, once Ayuso has curbed his desire to join the PP lists ahead of the municipal elections on 28 May, and in exchange for not appearing for CS to the City Council.

"She is willing to accept that, but she wants to beg Almeida for a position until then," reveal Ciudadanos sources, but those in her closest circle deny it.

Because the problem that the deputy mayor is now facing is twofold.

On the one hand, if she accepts Feijóo's offer, she would be left in limbo in her own party until the local corporation is dissolved.

And, on the other, if she contests the general elections for the Popular Party, she would not hold any position from May until the congressional elections.

The management urges the vice mayor

While Villacís met with Almeida in Cibeles, the political spokesperson and national leader of Ciudadanos, Patricia Guasp, was present in the Senate at the debate between the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and that of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

Guasp and Villacís should have met in person this Monday at the party headquarters in a meeting that was scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with the general secretary, Adrián Vázquez.

The vice mayor left a meeting with her councilors with the intention of attending that appointment in the building on Calle de Alcalá.

The top leaders of CS were waiting for her, but the meeting did not take place.

Instead, they talked on the phone.

On whether the management continues to consider that Villacís is now, after the latest events, in a position to run in the primaries to be a candidate for Madrid for Ciudadanos, Guasp has avoided legitimizing his candidacy.

“She will decide, like so many other candidates these days, if she is going to present herself in Madrid.

What I ask of all the candidates of my party is that they defend what the affiliates told us in that re-foundation in the general assembly”, Guasp has maintained in the corridors of the Upper House.

On the contrary, Villacís' proposal to join the PP as an “internal current” does not respect the new statutes.

The vice mayor has until Sunday night to run or not run in the primary.

But the dome demands that it be pronounced as soon as possible.

“We have to cauterize this now.

It has to be fixed today."

Sources from the leadership are urging, in which the deputy mayor is no longer seen as their candidate, taking into account that it has been made public that she is seeking a seat in the PP.

As to whether they expect her to show up, no one is clear.

"My capacity for empathy is greatly diminished," says a member of the executive close to Villacís.
