Aníbal Fernández, Minister of National Security, responded on Tuesday to Patricia Bullrich, who criticized the Government for "inaction" in the arrest of the Mapuche leader Facundo Jones Huala.

"They were never able to solve it and when Bullrich had to work on this issue in Patagonia, it meant the death of Maldonado and Rafael Nahuel. We work very seriously, very carefully and there is not a single scratch anywhere," he said in radio ten.

The official's references are to the cases of Santiago Maldonado, whose body was found in 2017 in the Chubut River, after a Gendarmerie operation;

and that of Rafael Nahuel, a young Mapuche who died during an eviction operation by the Prefecture.

Both cases happened with Bullrich at the head of the Ministry of National Security.

After the arrest of Jones Huala, the president of the PRO and former Minister of Security congratulated the Río Negro Police and Governor Arabela Carreras for their "political will" and support for the security forces in "the fight against the violent." .

Senator Alfredo Cornejo was another of those who pointed to the inaction of the national Executive in the arrest of the Mapuche leader, who had been a fugitive for a year.

"The national government turned a blind eye for almost three years while in the south they suffered violence from characters who pretend to represent indigenous peoples," he said.

At the same time, he recalled the resignations of ministers "so as not to intervene" in the case, in reference to Elizabeth Gómez Alcorta, who had been Jones Huala's defense attorney, and Sabina Frederic.

"I can't be explaining every day to guys who don't understand anything, nor did Bullrich ever understand anything, that's how it went with Maldonado and Rafael Nahuel, they provoked him for not understanding anything at all. Cornejo doesn't understand anything either, I'm not going to lose time explaining nothing," Fernández said earlier on CNN radio.

In addition, he highlighted the "serious work" of the Río Negro Police and the Unified Command in the arrest of the Mapuche leader, who is now under a red alert from Interpol and an extradition request from Chile.
