Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russian oligarchs have been financially squeezed.
Now at least Alisher Usmanow could defend himself legally against it.
Rottach-Egern – Alisher Usmanow, who used villas on Lake Tegernsee, has been on the EU sanctions list since March last year.
He takes legal action against it.
He gets political flank protection from his home state Uzbekistan: The former CSU member of the Bundestag Peter Gauweiler is to act as legal counsel for a possible lawsuit against Brussels to lift sanctions.
Gauweiler is advising the Berlin embassy of Uzbekistan because it "does not have its own legal resources," said Gauweiler's communications consultant when asked.
He should "provide assistance and assistance" to Uzbekistan's citizens - and thus also to Usmanov.
Usmanow owns a lot of capital and assets in Germany
In September, four villas in Rottach-Egern, which are attributed to Usmanow, were searched by a large contingent of police forces.
He denies that they are his property.
They were acquired through letterbox companies in the tax haven of the Isle of Man.
For the stately villa on Fischerstraße on the lake shore, in which Usmanow stayed often and for long periods, he is named as the "owner/co-owner" and "beneficial owner" at least according to the present purchase contract.
In addition to a Moscow address, the "Fischerstrasse in Rottach-Egern" is also explicitly given.
There was even a demonstration at Tegernsee against Putin's "straw man", as he is classified by the EU.

Alexander Radwan, the local CSU member of the Bundestag, was also critical of the Uzbek native.
Germany played a leading role in imposing harsh sanctions on oligarchs and politicians, Radwan writes on his website.
“Perhaps Alisher Usmanov is one of the most influential Russian oligarchs, who also owns many fortunes (e.g. an already arrested yacht in Bremen, villa in Bavaria, etc.) and shell companies in Germany.
It is particularly important to cut off such people from financial resources in Europe in order to weaken Putin's influence in Europe and his power base in Russia."
A federal judge should also support Usmanov
According to Welt am Sonntag
, Uzbek diplomats have
already made representations to the Federal Chancellery and several federal ministries.
Uzbekistan has been working at EU level to have the sanctions against Alisher Usmanov lifted since November, the
Financial Times
is quoted as saying.
In addition to Gauweiler, the former presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice, Thomas Fischer, is also said to be working in the spirit of Usmanow.
In a brief, he deals with the search warrant for the Rottach property and, according to
Welt am Sonntag
, considers it “illegal”.
The public prosecutor's office has not proven that the villas belong directly to Usmanov.
