François Deluga, socialist mayor of Teich (Gironde) since 1989, announced this Monday during his vows ceremony that he would cease to exercise his mandate, "

to leave the function to others, younger, and who carry a vision of the future

”.

Re-elected five times mayor of this town of around 9,000 inhabitants, located in the Arcachon basin, the first magistrate recalled that being mayor "

is a demanding but so exciting commitment

".

I decided today, at 66, to leave my functions as mayor

”, explained this Monday François Deluga, re-elected without difficulty in 2020, no list having presented itself against his.

This early retirement surprised more than one in the multipurpose room of Teich.

The announcement of his departure also took place the day before the second day of national mobilization against the pension reform, which notably plans to shift the legal age of departure to 64 years.

Simple municipal councilor until 2026

"

This commitment to end my term as mayor when I would have reached the age of 65, if I were still elected, and which I have often recalled, I hold it today

", recalls the city councilor in front of many players in local Teichoise life.

The elected Girondin is retiring from the municipality after “

34 years of public action

” having notably exercised, in addition to that of mayor, two terms as deputy for Gironde.
