Jorge Capitanich: "It is not reasonable that the President, his Minister of Economy and his Chief of Staff are candidates"

The governor of Chaco said that there must be various options that represent the different visions within the Frente de Todos.

The governor of Chaco, Jorge Capitanich, expressed his position on Tuesday regarding the diversity of candidates within the Frente de Todos and the eventual search for the

re-election of President Alberto Fernández

.

The provincial president said that the head of state has the right to stand in the elections to go for his second, but maintained that there cannot be several candidates who are members of the government, because they do not represent "the entirety" of the government coalition.

"Can the President, his Chief of Staff and the Minister of Economy be candidates? It is not reasonable. The Government should have a representative, if it is the President, it will be the President, if not it will be another," he said.

Along these lines, Capitanich maintained that the candidate that emerges must be representative of the entire space and that it is a debate that must be resolved at a political table where all the leaders are present.

In that place of debate, he stressed that federalism, sectors of the center left and other more conservative sectors must be represented to guarantee a STEP where all the spaces of the FdT can express their position.

For Capitanich, Cristina Kirchner is the undisputed leader of the Frente de Todos.

However, he pointed out that the lack of a place to debate these issues is a debt of space, for which reason he asked that in the face of the electoral process it is necessary to define a strategy within the framework of "a political articulation table."

"We have to go through this month of February with the perspective of a table that allows us to define a strategy based on three elements: a programmatic agreement, teams that are part of the space and the leadership that must arise from the popular will that arises through STEP", he pointed out.

The Chaco governor also referred to Vice President Cristina Kirchner as the undisputed leader of the pro-government coalition and as the main candidate, despite the fact that after her conviction for corruption she expressed her desire not to run "for any position."

"Given his political position - which has been clear - it is necessary to establish other criteria for participation. The Primaries can constitute that tool and we need different expressions so that we have the possibility of expressing the different positions in a rational and competitive way," he emphasized.

In addition, he stated that every time Cristina Kirchner stood for election, she won and that this is something that only happened in history with General Juan Domingo Perón.

When asked about the supposed ban on the vice president, Capitanich questioned "corporate power" and said that "delaying certain decisions can reduce the degree of freedom in political construction."

Finally, he pointed out that he has not made a decision on his eventual national candidacy, which he also tied to a collective decision.

Although he warned that his intention is to actively participate in the "discussion of national politics and ideas."

"A table that opens the game and participation, build other groups and that we define who can represent it. It should be a political drive derived from multiple internal expressions that express the best of our diversity," he concluded.
