Munich – Winter is coming back with a good portion of snow.

However, a large part of Bavaria does not notice anything.

Because the snow line will rarely fall below 800 meters.

So while the snow masses are piling up in the Alps and in the low mountain ranges, it is raining heavily in the lowlands.

In addition, it remains too warm for what is normally the coldest month of the year.

Weather in Bavaria: More than a meter of fresh snow in the Alps - rain in the lowlands

What is to come in the next few days in the Alpine region should bring tears of joy to every winter sports fan's eyes.

It's supposed to snow there for almost three days from Thursday.

Meteorologist Dominik Jung speaks of "100 to 200 liters of precipitation as snow".

That should be enough for a snow cover of more than one meter.

One must not forget, however, that this also increases the risk of avalanches extremely.

So caution is advised when traveling in the Alps at the weekend.

The rest of the Free State - especially the south around the metropolitan region of Munich - gets the snow shower in liquid form.

There it gets wet, gray and stormy with an average of four degrees.

While it will be sunny and relatively warm again in the south and north of Bavaria on Wednesday - five degrees in Munich and seven degrees in Würzburg - it is already raining in Regensburg with five degrees (values from

).

On Thursday, however, the rain will find its way throughout Bavaria.

While it's snowing in Kempten and Berchtesgaden at one degree, a snow-rain mix comes down in Munich at three degrees.

Further north it is four to seven degrees warmer.

So there is not enough snow there.

Weather in Bavaria: January too warm again – lower temperatures next week?

Was that it with the wintry temperatures for the lowland Free State residents?

Not quite, but nevertheless, with January, another winter month that was too warm went down in the history books.

“But February 2023 also got off to a fairly mild start.

This has little to do with winter weather.

Winter Wonderland is not in sight,” Jung wrote in his prediction.

Only the American weather model GFS predicts a real cooling off for the coming week.

It's supposed to be just below zero during the day there.

All other models also see a cooling coming, but it will still be too mild for the time of year.

And snow is not to be expected for the time being.

The high heading our way next week looks like a 'dry spell'.
