"Taking the law into one's own hands and hate crimes against Palestinians harm the security of the region and expand the circle of terrorism" - this was stated today (Tuesday) in an official statement from the Shin Bet. This unusual statement was issued following the filing of a statement by a prosecutor against a 22-year-old Israeli citizen, according to which the citizen set fire to a Palestinian vehicle in the village Turmusaya near Ramallah at the beginning of the month. The
same incident happened on January 2, when a report was received of a Palestinian throwing stones at Israeli vehicles in Kabir 60 near the village of Turmusaya. While a military force that arrived at the scene began chasing the Palestinian, the Israeli suspect arrived at the scene and set fire to a Palestinian vehicle According to the Shin Bet, "this is an activity that harms the military force's ability to carry out its mission and may even endanger it."

The young man, a resident of Ma'ale Ephraim who is known to the security forces, was arrested after the incident and questioned on suspicion of setting the Palestinian vehicle on fire with a racial motive.
Today, a prosecutor's statement was submitted against him by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, which accompanies the case, and in the coming days it is expected that the indictment will be filed.
The Shin Bet stated: "Taking the law into one's own hands and carrying out attacks and hate crimes, especially when these are done against non-involved Palestinians, harms the security of the region, expands the circle of terrorism and sabotages the efforts of the security forces against Palestinian terrorism.
The security forces will continue to work to thwart this activity."

In a spirit similar to this message issued by the organization, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke after the attack in Neve Ya'akov in Jerusalem in which seven people were murdered.
"It is necessary to act decisively and calmly, urging people not to take the law into their own hands," he said at the time.
Already at the end of the week, officials in the security system warned of the possibility of revenge actions by extreme right-wing activists following the attacks in the capital.
"When the Prime Minister called yesterday in the field not to take the law into one's hands, it was not based on a feeling," said a security official.
He added, "There is a great fear of an action that will set the area on fire. The security establishment is aware of this. We are working on the issue, and therefore it was decided to also increase the points of friction between Palestinians and Jews in Judea and Samaria and the surrounding area."
