Nurit Barkai, chairman of Kibbutz Rosh Hankara in the north caused outrage after decorating her profile picture with the flag. "I don't remember such a wave of reactions on the kibbutz's WhatsApp," said one of the members. "This is a provocation, don't be surprised if you get reactions accordingly," said another. "She's the chairman, they'll still think she represents everyone"

The chairman of Kibbutz Rosh Hankara in the north, Nurit Barkai, decorated her Facebook profile picture with the flag of Palestine and provoked great outrage in the kibbutz and beyond. And, according to him, "noisy and tumultuous following the publication, in days like these of repeated murderous attacks by Palestinians and of doubts about our continued conduct towards them."

The debate sparked by the photo has already gone beyond the conversation on Facebook and WhatsApp.

"I don't remember days like this when the opinions are so opposite. I'm sad about it," wrote someone in the group.

"I didn't want to comment but it's hard for me not to. After we cried yesterday when we heard the terrible news, to start the day and the week with the news that the chairman of my kibbutz is waving the 'flag' of that despicable murderer," wrote another, "this is an injury to my feelings and to many others in the settlement

Stop calling it politics.

I think they crossed a red line here.

The words "democracy" and "politics" can be washed away, up to our country and our soldiers, up to the policemen who protect us, up to all the victims of terrorism and the martyrs of the IDF.

My heart hurts, it sucks and it's sad to start a week like this."

One of the members asked to know, "Do you think it is legitimate to wave an enemy flag of a group that wants to eliminate your existence?"

And another used the words, "really frustrating, in my opinion unclear and really delusional".

Another added, "They sent it to me and it hurts my feelings very much. As someone who has a son who is a fighter in the IDF who is surrounded by the flags of an enemy who fights us and kills us, I hope for your sake that you will remove this disgrace."

When someone in the group came out to defend the freedom of expression of the kibbutz chairman, he replied, "Whoever raises an enemy flag incites against IDF soldiers, shame on you for defending such a thing."

In a conversation with Walla!

One of the members said, "In such a difficult time, it is suddenly difficult to see someone from our own group taking a picture with the Palestinian flag, and not just anyone, but the chairperson of the kibbutz, that is, when someone sees such a picture on her page, which in my eyes is shocking, he might think that this is how an entire kibbutz thinks. And we are talking about a kibbutz of hundreds People, quite a few of whom are members of the security forces."

Regarding the storm caused by the photo, he added, "Obviously it's defiance, obviously it's a provocation, so it's obvious that it stirred emotions and she shouldn't be surprised that the reaction was accordingly."

"I did a small survey among the members and one hundred percent were against the publication of this photo with the flag. It is not scientific and may not be representative, but this is what I found," says Lavalle!

Another friend, who asked to remain anonymous, "A person who raises the flag of an enemy crosses a line without realizing that he is turning his back on the Zionist ethos and the Jewish Zionist identity, and that is what is annoying here. It also hurts the protest very much and destroys it because there are people who do not connect with it and for them it passes A limit. I hope that in the end she sobers up and takes it down."

"Knife in the Heart"

"I sent the photo to Minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf from Otzma Yehudit, and I wonder what he thinks about it," said Lavala, head of the Hankara.

She is a lovely woman and that doesn't mean I don't love and appreciate her, but it is horrifying when a person in a position in my kibbutz, which was founded by Zionist pioneers who came from the Holocaust, does it.

What sucks is that not everyone stands up and makes it clear that a red line has been crossed and that there will be no such thing.

It angers me that we have reached a situation where words like 'democracy' and 'politics' are used and they say don't talk about it in the group.

What is the connection?

This is a red line that has been crossed.

It is clear to me that if I go one by one among the friends, everyone will be as shocked by it as I am.

Even those who are left and go to demonstrations in Balfour - are not in favor of such a thing.

There are leftists here who are really against it, but no one wants to get into it."

The kibbutz debate has already gone beyond the kibbutz.

Similarly, a resident of neighboring Nahariya who heard about the matter said, "I was a fighter, I was an officer, I served in the territories. Regardless of whether it is legal or illegal, permitted or prohibited, this flag overwhelms me with emotions. At this time, to see something like this in someone from a neighboring kibbutz, from a Jewish woman who is sure Defines herself as a Zionist, it's a knife in the heart."

Norit Barkai herself refuses to comment.

"I have nothing to say on the subject," she said, "I have a position, it's a very interesting subject, but I'm not interested in being interviewed. There's no need to make something out of it that it's not."

In the meantime, she took down the profile picture with the flag, but it is still among her pictures on Facebook.
