Based on intelligence analysis and in-depth investigations, the West Kowloon Special Duty Team launched operations code-named "Li Ting Sweeping Caves" and "Quick Speed" in Mong Kok District yesterday (31st) at about 5 pm, raiding a unit at No. 316 Ferry Street. A suspected illegal mahjong gambling booth was smashed, and 4 electric mahjong tables, 8 sets of mahjong, 12 chairs and about 3,300 yuan of gambling money were seized. The police arrested a 68-year-old local woman in charge of the district for allegedly "operating a gambling establishment" In addition, 10 men and 10 women aged between 40 and 79 were arrested on suspicion of "gambling in a gambling establishment".

Among them, the female person in charge has been provisionally charged with one crime of "operating a gambling establishment", and the other 7 men and 5 women have been provisionally charged with one crime of "gambling in a gambling establishment".
The case will be brought up in the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court on the 17th of this month, and the remaining 8 arrested persons will be released on bail pending investigation and must report to the police in the middle of this month.
According to the "Gambling Ordinance" Chapter 148 of the Laws of Hong Kong, "operating a gambling establishment" and "gambling in a gambling establishment" are serious crimes. The former is liable to a maximum fine of 5 million yuan and imprisonment for 7 years, and the latter is liable to a maximum fine of 3 RMB 10,000 and imprisonment for 9 months.
