Finally,
Alberto Fernández gave in to pressure from most sectors of the Frente de Todos to set up a political table
to discuss the strategy for the presidential elections.
Although he does not give up his intention to run for re-election, the President decided to set up a space to discuss the plan and the lists.
This was confirmed to Clarín by high official sources close to the head of state, who assured that the president's decision was "not" influenced by the summit in Merlo, where this Monday night La Cámpora, the hard Kirchnerism and the massismo congregated, and to which the President or any close leader was not invited.
"The table is going to be set up, but not to be a prosecutor for the national administration, but to coordinate the electoral strategy," said a voice of extreme confidence from Fernández, who indicated that second readings should not be sought after.
"It will not be a space where government measures are analyzed, but rather where essential issues are going to be addressed so that Peronism can be competitive," he added.
This differentiation is key: since he faced Cristina Kirchner, the President resisted the pressure to draw up a political decision-making table, arguing that they sought to surround him to force him to adopt the initiatives that arose from the Patria Institute.
As confided by another important member of the Cabinet with unrestricted access to the President's office,
the call for what will be an "Electoral Strategy Table of the Frente de Todos" was already "defined more than a week ago
. "
Strictly speaking, it had not come to light up to now and other referents in the presidential environment affirmed that this was not going to happen.
"The President is in the race, as always, that does not change," completed another member of the small group of unconditional leaders that surround Fernández.
In any case, Fernández's decision, which will take shape in the coming days, implies an instance of internal debate in which the President has several detractors and few supporters.
He also has competitors, in parallel to the operative outcry for Cristina that the hard Kirchnerism has already launched.
The one who
dropped out of the competition again was the leader of the Frente Renovador Sergio Massa.
This Monday, in Merlo, he once again told his FdT teammates that he is not in the race.
"It is incompatible to be Minister of the Economy and a candidate," he explained, according to what Clarín was able to reconstruct from several of those present.
