An "Appart'City" in Antibes is requisitioned by the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes from January 31 to accommodate unaccompanied minors (MNA).
The sub-prefect, Benoît Huber, has just signed an order to this effect.
This requisition follows the large and unusual influx of young migrants in vulnerable situations at the Franco-Italian border in the city of Menton.
Faced with this record number of 690 unaccompanied minors, the structures of the department could no longer accommodate more, for lack of space.
The president of the departmental council, Charles-Ange Ginésy, had launched a week ago a call for help from the State in the face of this saturation at the microphone of France bleu Côte d'Azur.
120 rooms
The requisition of this 120-room establishment is scheduled for one month.
The departmental council will have to pay the related costs, the competence of the care of unaccompanied minors returning to it.
The prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes finally underlines
“the urgency of ensuring the care of these people in decent and dignified conditions”
but also
“the need to prevent disturbances to public order of any kind”
