911 yuan - in the Porsche cosmos there is usually a model car, a leather key case or a design fuel cap.

In China, on the other hand, hundreds of interested parties have recently tried to reserve a real Panamera at a bargain price.

With an online deposit of the equivalent of 124 euros, they wanted to secure a Panamera of the current series for a slim 124,000 yuan (16,900 euros) - officially at the Porsche Center Yinchuan in northern China.

According to the price list, the basic model there starts at 973,000 yuan.

When the first people immediately made representations about the concrete processing of the contract, the shock was great – among customers, dealers and Porsche.

Because behind the supposed bargain there was no aggressive sales promotion for the sports four-door, which was slowly getting on in years.

Instead, there was "a serious error in the stated sales price," Porsche noted, according to the business news agency Bloomberg, which first reported on the case.

One got a Porsche bargain

In the hours that followed, those responsible will have sent prayers to Weibo.

Some big names have already been brought to their knees on the Chinese short message service: Mercedes was last there a year ago because of a commercial with female models who, in the eyes of the users, were made up too European.

H&M and Nike were grilled some time ago for cautiously hinting that working conditions at their Chinese manufacturing sites could still be improved.

And Starbucks and Apple had to defend themselves against accusations of selling overpriced products to the Chinese.

The accusation would of course come to nothing at Porsche.

Nevertheless, the luxury manufacturer quickly reached an agreement with the customer, who was the first to transfer 911 yuan.

With regard to the Panamera specifically advertised by the Yinchuan Porsche Center, an "acceptable result was agreed," the company said, avoiding further explanations.

All other customers were contacted with a promise to get their money back within 48 hours.

Nothing was announced about additional model cars, key cases or design fuel caps.
