However, both have put down roots in Madrid and will continue to live there.
Ruiz is studying for a master's degree and her daughter is in a school in the Spanish capital.
Peña Nieto renewed his
golden visa
in November and has no intention of leaving the country.
“I am liking my life here.
I plan to reside in Spain permanently, ”he assured EL PAÍS at the time.
Since the death in 2007 of his first wife, Monica Pretelini, with whom he had his three children, this was his second serious and public relationship.
The first was with the actress Angélica Rivera, with whom he was married from 2010 to 2019, during the years of his presidency.
After his divorce, he began dating Tania Ruiz.
Despite the breakup, the model assures that the relationship between the two is good, but that "life projects change" and that is why they can no longer be together.
Their families remain very connected.
Ruiz gets along very well with the former president's children, to the point that every year he publicly congratulates them on their birthdays.
His stories on his Instagram show a special relationship between Carlotta, Ruiz's daughter, and Paulina, Alejandro and Nicole, Peña Nieto's grown children.
"I love you so, so much! Thank you always, my Ale!", She wrote in a post in which Carlotta appeared hugging Alejandro.
Tania Ruiz has her own swimsuit and bikini company designed by herself, which she promotes through her social networks, where she has hundreds of thousands of followers.
She has worked as a professional model for many years and has earned her living by appearing in fashion and makeup magazines.
Born in San Luis Potosí, Ruiz has four siblings and was married to businessman Bobby Domínguez for five years.
The former president's business is not so clear.
In October 2020, he obtained the
golden visa
, a permit reserved for large investors.
The Mexican has bought a house on the outskirts of Madrid in which he has lived permanently since then.
“I am very grateful to this country for the treatment it has given me.
I plan to reside in Spain permanently and occasionally visit Mexico, ”he told EL PAÍS.
At the moment, he has not set foot on Mexican soil for three years.
His long stay outside the country may be due to the legal mess that awaits him in Mexico.
In August of last year, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) announced that it was keeping three investigations open against him, for money laundering and illicit enrichment.
"It's stupid.
I have not wanted to give a media response, but I am invariably attentive to answer about the legal origin of my heritage, ”he assured this newspaper.
The former president has not set foot on Mexican land for three years and last September he missed the wedding of his daughter Paulina Peña Pretelini.
The young woman celebrated a discreet wedding in the State of Mexico.
She married Fernando Tena Alonso, her boyfriend of six years and the son of former Mexican national team coach Luis Fernando Tena.
Only 30 people attended the ceremony.
