Some files are more talked about than others.

The former coordinator of the GPSO (Great South West Railway Project), Étienne Guyot, knows something about it.

Having just taken up his duties as prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the former prefect of Occitanie presented on Tuesday his priorities for action for the years to come, including the ecological transition, including the realization implies rethinking the question of mobility.

Mobility is life

”, explains Étienne Guyot, affirming that the State services will do everything in their power “

to improve the mobility

” of New Aquitaine residents.

The metropolitan RER is an important track, as is the GPSO.

"

It's a project that I know is disputed, that it has opponents

," said the prefect to the press, while recalling that it was nevertheless declared to be of public utility.

In this regard, the prefect intends to “

stay tuned

” and “

settle as much as possible the difficulties that could be encountered

”.

The GPSO consists of the creation of two new high-speed lines (LGV), first between Bordeaux and Toulouse then between Bordeaux and Dax, but the project faces the revolt of many local elected officials including the mayor of Bordeaux.

In recent weeks, the report of the Infrastructure Orientation Council (COI) - although it has not yet been published - has caused concern among supporters of this project.

It would imply the postponement after 2040 of the LGV between Bordeaux and Dax, which would endanger the share of European funding (20%) and therefore the GPSO as a whole.

For the moment, there is no decision from the government

”, recalls the prefect, however.

Furthermore, "

it is advice, it is not decisions

“Explains the representative of the State.

The government will therefore have the last word.

Another stumbling block was mentioned: the reconciliation between the new railway developments necessary for the realization of the GPSO and the Zero net artificialisation (ZAN) advocated by the State.

An approach that consists of limiting "

buildings on natural or agricultural spaces and compensating for urbanization with a greater place given to nature in the city

".

For Étienne Guyot, "

ZAN is not opposed to continuing to meet the needs of fellow citizens

" and does not question the necessary developments south of Bordeaux and north of Toulouse, which have been recognized of public utility.

On the issue of land take, "

the State will be accountable for the balances

», Still tempers Étienne Guyot.

One thing is certain: the GPSO has not finished talking about it.
