Ahead of the opening of the Chadian embassy in Israel: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today (Wednesday) with Chadian President Mehmet Dabi, at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem.

"We see these relations as extremely important - with a large country in the heart of Africa. These are relations that we want to upgrade to new levels, to new heights - and your visit here in Israel and the opening of the embassy are an expression of that," Netanyahu said. 

Tomorrow, as mentioned, Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Debi will jointly inaugurate the Chadian embassy in Israel.

In January 2019, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Chad's former president Idriss Debi announced the renewal of diplomatic relations between the countries at a ceremony in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad.

"We believe that the cooperation between us can help advance not only our relations and cooperation, but is also part of Israel's return to Africa and Africa's return to Israel. We have common goals of security, prosperity and stability," Netanyahu added. 

Following the meeting between the two, an extended meeting was held with the participation of the Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, Rabbi of the Mossad Dad Barnea, Rabbi of the Staff Tzachi Braverman, Rabbi of the Military Academy Tzachi Hanegbi, the Prime Minister's Military Secretary General Avi Gil and the Israeli Ambassador to Chad (where his seat in Senegal) Ben Borgel;

From the Chadian side: Foreign Minister Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Defense Minister General Daoud Yaya Brahim, Head of Presidential Cabinet Idriss Youssouf Boy and Secret Service Chief General Ahmed Kogri.

Last night, upon the arrival of President Debi, he was welcomed by the head of the Mossad, Barnea, who said that "expanding the circle of political partnerships is an important goal for expanding the strategic depth of the State of Israel. I am hopeful that other leaders in the Middle East and Africa will draw inspiration from this important agreement, and promote their relations with Israel. The Mossad will continue to work in every way to develop and promote relations with every country and entity with which the State of Israel has an interest in striving for an agreement and peace."
