The green comet "C/2022 E3" (also known as ZTF), which only skims over the earth every 50,000 years, "visited" again for the first time after the Stone Age, and was closest to the earth on Wednesday (February 1).

On Sunday (January 29), a Hong Kong astrophotographer captured this green comet as if passing over Lion Rock in the dark night.

Hong Kong astrophotographer Leung Wai-hang (Wei sir) uploaded a photo of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) passing over Lion Rock on Tuesday (January 31).

The photo was taken on the evening of this Sunday (January 29). It is superimposed with 63 photos, each exposed for 60 seconds. It is very clear and spectacular.

Astrophotographer Andy Pak photographed Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) as early as January 21. He pointed out that the comet could not be seen with the naked eye at that time, and it took two hours to see the comet with the camera. The comet was processed with astronomy software Pixinsight, without Photoshop, Lightroom, etc., hoping to present the real side of the comet.

The Hong Kong Space Museum pointed out in mid-January that comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) reached perihelion on January 12 and will be closest to the earth on February 1, at a distance of about 42 million kilometers. Its brightness may reach magnitude 5 to magnitude 6 , can be seen with the naked eye in dark remote areas.

The museum said that if you use a camera and a telescope to take pictures, you can even see the coma, tail and other substances on the comet.

The museum said that friends with astronomical observation experience can try to find this green long-tailed snowball from Draco to Ursa Minor during the Lunar New Year period; as the comet gets closer to the earth, more clear images can be released.

Astronomers said that a newly discovered long-period green comet "C/2022 E3" (also known as ZTF) flew by the sun and the earth on January 13 and February 2. "Appreciate it directly. It is the first time to see it in 50,000 years. The last time it was seen was prehistoric humans in the Paleolithic Age.

Once in 50,000 years!

The green comet flies past the earth in February. On this day, there is a chance to see the myth with the naked eye. Comet Shin was arrested for drunk driving for the second time. He refused an alcohol test and drove a stolen vehicle. The space museum reopened and added 100 new exhibits. cometary jet

How often does the green comet "C/2022 E3" (ZTF) approach the Earth?

It only approaches Earth once every 50,000 years.

Which day is closest to Earth this time?

It is closest to the earth on February 1, about 42 million kilometers away from the earth, and may not be visible to the naked eye.
