Ahead of a summit between the top leadership of the European Union and the heads of government in Ukraine, which will be held tomorrow (Thursday) and the following two days in Kiev, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stepanchuk, urges the Europeans to cease their fears of a direct military confrontation with Russia. Stepanchuk stated in an interview with the French daily "Le Monde During an official visit he made to France: "Don't be afraid of a direct confrontation with Russia. It already exists. Ukraine is on the first front line for you."
Stepanchuk criticized French statesmen and politicians who refrain from supporting the supply of advanced weapons, including assault tanks and fighter jets, to his country.
"All those who hesitate to strengthen military support are invited to visit Ukraine.
There is no politician who visited Ukraine and did not change his mind.
A good understanding of the situation is necessary.
We can have political and philosophical discussions, but when a missile destroys a residential building in a few seconds, there is no time for discussions.
We need solutions."

On Friday, there will be a summit between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of the Council of the Union, Charles Michel, the President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Joseph Burrell, to discuss the promotion of Ukraine's accession to the ranks of the Union.

For the time being, no breakthrough is expected in joining Ukraine to the Union.
In a joint statement to be published at the end of the summit, the European Union will congratulate the reforms and steps taken by Ukraine in recent months - including in the fight against corruption, in order to advance towards meeting the prerequisites for joining the Union.
The announcement will also emphasize that the future of Europe is anchored in its future membership in the European Union.
Meanwhile, the United States approved a package worth two billion dollars for Ukraine.
The package is expected to include a lot of ammunition for weapons systems already supplied to Ukraine by the United States as well as a new missile system made by Boeing, which will allow an attack at a depth of up to 150 kilometers.
