Munich – It should be a ticket for everyone, cheap and environmentally friendly on top of that.

The 49-euro ticket will finally start on May 1st, as the government decided yesterday.

The monthly ticket for local transport, which is valid nationwide, is intended to promote the switch to public transport and relieve the burden on citizens who are burdened by high prices.

Just like the popular 9-euro ticket from the previous year, as reported by

So everyone off to the train?

Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that!

Senior about 49-euro ticket: "This is again discrimination against all seniors"

The big catch is hidden in the small print: The ticket is only available online - and that excludes many interested parties.

“This is again discrimination against all seniors.

Not every older person has a PC standing around or owns a smartphone," says Ingeborg Staudenmeyer from the Neuhausen-Nymphenburg Senior Citizens' Advisory Board of the

The 74-year-old is pissed off: "Our society really only thinks about the boys!"

In addition, this will mean a lot of work for the city's old people's and service centers: "They will certainly be asked by many desperate seniors to somehow print out the tickets."

Reinhard Bauer, chairman of the Munich senior citizens' advisory board, is outraged.

"This ticket decision is unreasonable." The 72-year-old announces: "We will go to the barricades against it."

The offer should actually be a big step towards getting all sections of the population excited about the rails - for everyone who wants to overcome the digital hurdle, here is the tz-Check: This is how the 49-euro ticket works.

In what form is the ticket offered?

Via smartphone app or using a chip card.

An additional proof of validity on paper should only be recognized by the end of the year.

In any case, a subscription must be taken out, which can be canceled on a monthly basis.

The ticket is personal and cannot be used by others.

Where is the 49 euro ticket valid?

In all local public transport in Germany, i.e. in regional trains, buses, trams, underground and suburban trains.

Not included are ICE, EC and IC, long-distance trains or long-distance buses.

Are there rules for taking other people, bicycles or dogs with you?

Unlike many current subscription tariffs, this is not intended, not even for family members – with the exception of children up to six years of age.

What happens to existing subscription contracts?

Many transport companies and associations point out that subscription contracts with terms longer than May 1st can be converted to the 49-euro ticket.

In some cases this should happen automatically.

Most experts agree that this is a comprehensive offer – if only it were accessible to all sections of the population.
