The price of the 49 euro ticket is too high.

Some countries are therefore now planning a social ticket – but not everyone likes it.

Berlin/Munich – The start date has finally been set.

The long-awaited 49-euro ticket will be available in Germany from May.

The saver ticket is the successor to the nine-euro ticket, which was introduced last summer as part of a federal government relief package.

With the 49-euro ticket, also known as the Deutschlandticket, you can then use all local public transport in Germany for a month.

Sounds like a great offer, but not everyone can afford it.

Citizens' allowance: 49-euro ticket too expensive

The best example here are recipients of the citizens’ allowance.

Because the standard rate is precisely calculated and broken down for social assistance.

Single recipients of citizen income receive 502 euros per month according to the standard rate.

Our chart shows how this money is divided according to the Ministry's calculations.

From the overview it is clear: The amount provided for the transport area is 45.02 euros and is not enough for the 49-euro ticket.

This has now also reached the individual federal states.

49-euro ticket: Hesse is planning a social ticket for citizens' income recipients on its own

Hesse is already planning a discounted, state-wide local transport ticket for low earners.

The ticket should then only cost 31 euros per month and be available to all people who are entitled to citizen benefit, housing benefit plus or social assistance, said Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) and Social Affairs Minister Kai Klose (Greens) on January 16 Wiesbaden with.

The circle of beneficiaries would then comprise around 520,000 people.

At best, the discounted saver ticket should also be launched together with the 49-euro ticket – i.e. on May 1st.

What sounds good for the time being, however, has a big catch.

Because the discounted ticket would only be valid in Hesse.

Thus, the size of the area of validity remains significantly smaller compared to the 49-euro ticket.

This is also criticized by the Parity Social Association and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB).

Likewise, the price of 31 euros is still too high.

The Hesse state association of Pro Bahn also called for a nationwide social ticket for 19 euros a month.

"We reject isolated solutions at the state level," said the interest group for passengers.

The social Germany ticket should be available to all people who receive state transfers such as citizen income.
