The city of Izraa, in rural Daraa, launched a civil initiative to operate four wells with solar energy, along with digging two new wells, to improve the drinking water situation in the city.
The head of the Izraa City Council, Eng. Imad Al-Shouha, explained in a statement to SANA reporter today that the local community, within four days, collected an amount that exceeded 1.7 billion Syrian pounds, under the supervision of a committee from the local community that determined citizens’ priorities by operating four wells for drinking water with solar energy, to avoid power outages, indicating The wells are distributed in the areas and neighborhoods of Al-Jisr, Al-Ghassania, Al-Shabiba and Halah.
Al-Shouha indicated that the local community intends to dig two new wells in light of the donations next to the pumping station and in the northern area of the city, provided that they are fully clothed and equipped with the installation of alternative energy panels to ensure longer operating hours.
And the head of the city council stated that the initiative resulted in the lighting of Abi Al-Fida Street in the town of Thuniba, which is adjacent to the city of Izraa, by installing about 19 solar-powered lighting devices.
