The Bordeaux submarine base is heading for Spain, and more specifically Catalonia.

From February 3, two great artists born on the other side of the Pyrenees are in the spotlight in this monumental place, built during the occupation and which has become a cultural space.

Two exhibitions which, like the place, are worth seeing.

After Gustav Klimt and Paul Klee in 2020, Monet, Renoir, Chagall and Yves Klein in 2021,

Venice, from Canaletto to Monet , Joaquín Sorolla and the

nocturnal exhibition

in 2022, after a month of closure to the public in January 2023, it is now

Dalí, the endless enigma

that occupies the long program (38 minutes) and

Gaudí, architect of the imagination

the short program, for the fourth season of the “

Bassins de Lumières

” in the Bassins à flot district.

The exhibition on Salvador Dalí lasts approximately 40 minutes.

Humbert Vuatrin, director of the Bassins des Lumières, is delighted with the success of the third season: 670,000 visitors walked through the gigantic gates of the underwater base.

Now “

in Spanish colors

”, this place pays “

homage to two great Catalan geniuses

”,

from February 3 to January 7, 2024

.

It's always a total immersion (the two exhibitions follow one another and continuously line the floor, the walls and the pools), to the delight of the eyes... And the ears of the amateurs rock.

Because it is the Pink Floyd that accompany the discovery of the works of Salvador Dalí.

Gianfranco Iannuzzi, artistic director of the exhibition, defends "

a perfectly relevant interpretation of the work

", because "

surrealism and progressive rock

willingness to go further

” in their respective fields.

An exhibition to the rhythm of Pink Floyd

Between two progressive rock tunes and a sequence of paintings, drawings, films and photographs retracing the personality of the painter and his fascination for the strange, the face and then the voice of the Catalan artist emerge from archive images: "

I considers television, cinema, the press and journalism as great means of debasement and stupidity of the crowds, but I love to use them

”.

By skilfully mixing the artist's emblematic productions, the twirling exhibition breathes new life into the work of this great representative of surrealism.

The egg from which Salvador Dalí emerges at the start of the exhibition - a Dalinian symbol if ever there was one - opens the doors to an increasingly thunderous world of shapes and colors, which ends at the end of the exhibition. exhibition, by shattering.

The exhibition on Antoni Gaudí offers an unprecedented dive into this unique religious building that is the Sagrada Família.

Shorter, the following exhibition on Antoni Gaudí is also a successful visual and auditory walk, in the footsteps and in the universe of the Catalan architect, to whom we owe in particular the unfinished basilica of Barcelona, the Sagrada Família.

Musically, no Pink Floyd this time but a passage at the Doors with

Riders On The Storm

, a hieratic incursion with the

Stabat Mater

and a rhythmic finale on the

Spanish Dances

of Enrique Granados.

Both exhibitions are accessible every day of the week.

The prices for accessing the Bassins des Lumières range from 9 to 15 euros.

It is strongly advised to reserve your place in advance and to choose a time slot.

Fairly warm clothes are to be expected because the temperature is cool in the underwater base.

The submarine base, an emblematic cultural site in the city of Bordeaux, was built during the occupation to accommodate up to 15 German submarines.

600,000 m3 of reinforced concrete were used, for a total area of 45,000 m2.
