The legal adviser to the government, Galia Beharve-Miara, made it clear to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he is prevented from promoting the legal revolution due to a conflict of interest in which he finds himself.
In the letter she sent to the Prime Minister, the legal advisor clarified that he is prevented from promoting the reforms in the legal system indirectly through other parties.
According to the letter, which was drawn up among other things against the background of inquiries received regarding Netanyahu's suspected conflict of interest, who is in the middle of his trial, "the position of the Legal Adviser to the Government is that the application of the limitations approved by the High Court of Justice ruling, under the circumstances in question, leads to the conclusion that the Prime Minister must avoid involvement in initiatives concerning changes in the legal system".
This, according to her, "due to the existence of a reasonable fear of a conflict of interest between his personal matters relating to the trial in which he is accused, and essential components of the initiatives, in accordance with the standards detailed in the opinion and approved in the ruling in the conflict of interest petition from 2021. This motivation also applies to the provision of direct guidance or bypassing through other factors when it comes to promoting the initiatives."
