Opinion How do you get the cart out of the mud? Without the Zionist foundations - nothing real will be built here Israel today

2023-02-02T21:30:17.225Z

In what reasonable worldview is 40 percent of the public supposed to risk their lives in defense of the homeland - and all the rest have permission to evade? • How is it likely that all the "Ben Gavirim" and "Gefani" who did not enlist would send me and my friends to fight, and not even bow our heads?

They claim we don't exist.

"Here, look at the election results," they say.

Like you - none.

In other words, there is no right wing that does not support Netanyahu, there is no right wing that opposes the closing of the corporation, there is no right wing that thinks Deri is a convicted felon who should not be a minister in the State of Israel.

Yemin is the ultra-Orthodox's monopoly on Judaism.

It is to worry about governance only when you are not in power.

and leftists.

deal a lot with leftists.

And that's exactly the place for this new column.

Because if the words you read are neither written nor heard, someone will believe that there is no secular and liberal right in Israel.

that there is no religious Zionism that is not ultra-Orthodox, of the type of Smotrich and Ben Gvir. That there is only a center-left - but no center-right. If everyone is convinced that we do not exist - people of the political right, but liberals in everything else - then there is a real risk to the Zionist enterprise. No less.

When everything is black and white, and when a rhetorical fraternal war takes place on the networks, we are in danger.

Israel is disintegrating into autonomy, the melting pot is gone, and even the Zionist space is giving way to tribes.

Anyone who tells the public that there is half of the left and half of the right is a crook.

There is ideological chaos here, like in "The Matrix".

What they say is the opposite of reality.

In recent years, I had the privilege of being among the decision makers in the country.

I am very proud of my professional achievements as Minister of Communications, in the deployment of infrastructure and economic advancement.

In my eyes, this is the task of a politician: to leave a mark.

be measured by results.

I have responsibility for what happened, including the mistakes I made.

And now, as a citizen, I have responsibility for what happens.

My hand, as they say, above.

The role of the press, for those who have forgotten, is to criticize the government - as others have criticized me.

I'm not a journalist, but I intend to use the journalistic platform to do just that, thoroughly and seriously.

what went wrong

I love this country, I fought for it, my children will go to the army to defend it.

I love the landscapes, the people and the feeling of togetherness in times of need.

Precisely because of this, I must open the new column with the broadest agreement we have left: something went wrong.

The supporters of the government are convinced that the court is the biggest disruption in their lives in recent years, and everyone else is convinced that this government is the disruption.

No one in the country thinks the situation is reasonable.

Calm.

normal.

I don't mean from a security point of view.

We have been living on our sword for 75 years.

Arab terrorists try to kill Jews regardless of the identity of the government.

But the disruption is what happens inside the house.

Let's start with a reminder of the basis: Zionism - a national home for the Jewish people, which requires protection of the homeland, settlement, absorption of immigrants.

And above all - a vision of a model company.

not complicated.

A few words that should be taught in every school, otherwise most first graders would no longer be studying in a Zionist education.

Now ask yourself: what is between the committee for appointing judges, the closing of the corporation, the public debates - and the base?

Defense of the homeland?

In what reasonable worldview is 40 percent of the public supposed to risk their lives in defense of the homeland - while all the rest have permission to evade?

Yes - dodge.

How does it sound plausible that all the "Ben Gavirim" and the "Gefani" who did not enlist in the IDF, or the "Derai" who served for three months, will send me and my friends to fight for them - and we won't even bow our heads?

The second Israel?

The hegemony?

These are excuses that cover up that people don't care about the value of the mutual guarantee.

Can't an ultra-Orthodox youth do national service in one of the excellent charity organizations that exist in ultra-Orthodox society?

Can't a young Arab woman do national service and contribute to one of the organizations or institutions near her place of residence?

Why do you need it?

Because that's how you develop identification with the country.

That's how you love her, and not just look for her flaws.

And yes, it is possible to escape again to the question of who is to blame in this situation.

what does it matter?

To fix - you need a government that believes in Zionism.

Zionist government.

optical error

A Zionist government is a government that is also committed to the value of a model society.

Does anyone know how to explain such a great effort so that a twice-convicted felon returns to the position of minister?

Governance?

Terror attacks, attacks on police stations, chaos on the roads of the south and non-stop shooting.

And no, in this column there is no intention to engage in the farce that hides in the concept of "full right", as if they gathered all the claims full of rage against the previous government one by one, and without blinking did exactly what they howled about.

Or by the fact that many Israelis who are willing to explain who they are against, are unable to say in one sentence who they themselves are.

Or how the national camp became the "faith camp".

The more important question is how to pull the wagon out of the mud and preserve the State of Israel.

And the answer is that without the Zionist foundations - nothing real and sustainable will be built here.

Maximum finger in the eye to the left and a lot of noise.

Therefore, it is an optical error to think that there is no secular and liberal right, that there is no religious Zionism that is far from Smutrich and Ben Gabir, or from the orthodox view. It is also an error to think that it is possible without us. This column will deal with the ideological alternative. What cannot be done in the Knesset, will happen here and in other places - in words And make no mistake: words have power.

Good corner

Politics is a necessary payment to do good.

A tool - and nothing else.

If a politician or someone who deals with it from the outside does not know how to do good, all he has left is the surrounding mud.

Therefore, every week I will try to mention a good corner of the country, an organization or people who did good for someone else.

And this week, precisely the dark place grew great kindness: the family of the late Asher Natan Morli, who was murdered in an attack in Jerusalem, was cut off from the electricity. The fundraising campaign for the family came to me from every direction, quickly. Mutual responsibility.

were we wrong

We will fix it!
