On the way to agreements?

State President Yitzhak Herzog recently addressed the various parties discussing the legal reform and offered them a compromise outline that would resolve the crisis, as reported this evening (Thursday) on News 12.

Herzog proposed to the parties to freeze the legislation for the reform of the judicial system for 14 days and to open negotiations without preconditions at the President's residence by an agreed team or committee.

The president told the parties that if the negotiations fail, the legislation will be renewed and if agreements are reached, the law will be put to a vote.

Already more than two weeks ago it was published in "Israel Hayom" that President Herzog "works 20 hours a day" in secret talks with senior officials in the government, the Knesset and the judiciary in order to reach a solution to the crisis surrounding the legal reform.

From information that reached "Israel Today" at the time, it appears that the outline that was reviewed is broad and includes the readjustment of the relations between the three authorities.

Another leg of the move is expected to be a significant increase in the number of judges - a flagship issue for Supreme Court President Esther Hayut.

However, it was recently published in "Israel Hayom" that President Herzog's efforts to forge a compromise have reached a dead end.

"Herzog does continue to try to talk the parties into talking to each other about an agreed reform, but the current state of affairs does not allow for a bridge between the parties," a source informed of the details told Israel Hayom.

The President's House is currently used as a dialogue center that succeeds in preserving the trust of the parties as a protected shelter for discussions in the midst of the controversy while maintaining the discretion of the participants.

"As part of this, meetings have been held at the President's House, including by the President, every day for the past few weeks - meetings with all sides of the map, including research institutes and various organizations, with the aim of establishing a negotiation mechanism that will allow an exit from the crisis while adhering to the fundamental values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and while maintaining unity The people.
