With the aim of highlighting the capabilities of persons with disabilities, today the “Disability Starts Off” initiative, in cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and the Human Resources Management Corporation, launched a charity market, at the headquarters of the Human Resources Management Corporation in Mazzeh, Damascus.
The exhibition, which lasts for 3 days, includes paintings, cosmetics, handicrafts, accessories, food products, textile industries, and dolls for children, which are products of people with disabilities.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Human Resources Corporation, Dr. Mounir Abbas, told SANA that the exhibition is among the goals that the Corporation is working on, to empower people with disabilities, and integrate them into the labor market through entrepreneurial and independent businesses, indicating that it is necessary to highlight the successes it presents. People with disabilities in society, to benefit people who have the same conditions.
In turn, the founder of the (Disability Intilaaqah) initiative, Mona Amqi, explained that the exhibition aims to develop the capabilities of people with disabilities by promoting their products and integrating them into the labor market, pointing out that the initiative works to empower this segment and improve the status of its members to prove their ability to work, through many training courses which provides a source of livelihood for them.
A number of participants stressed the importance of the exhibition in changing the stereotyped image of persons with disabilities, and making them productive and active persons. Duaa Al-Bustati and Nagham Al-Hishma indicated the need to show the capabilities and capabilities of persons with disabilities, with the aim of encouraging and motivating them further.
It is noteworthy that the (Disability Intilaaqah) initiative began in 2017, and focuses on spreading cultural awareness about persons with disabilities, and securing job opportunities for them in the public and private sectors, in a manner commensurate with their competencies.
