"We, the members of the Association of Speakers and Municipal Speakers, express our support for the righteous struggle of our members who are employees of the Broadcasting Corporation to prevent a government decision to close the corporation," writes today (Thursday) the chairman of the Association of Speakers of Local Authorities to the CEO of the corporation, Golan Yochpaz.
As a reminder, on Tuesday the Minister of Communications Shlomo Karai is expected to publish his plan to reduce the corporation, and according to the publications, both his news division and the source production budget are "in his sights".
"In our union, municipal speakers from different authorities across the country sit under one roof: authorities located in the periphery alongside authorities located in the center of the country, independent and strong authorities alongside authorities facing difficult economic challenges, authorities representing the entire spectrum of shades that make up the citizens of Israel: Jews, Arabs, Druze and more, authorities located within the green line and authorities located beyond it. Each and its characteristic advantages and disadvantages, while what we all have in common is the concern for the resident, for the quality of his life on a daily basis and our ability as an authority to give him the best he is entitled to as a citizen in the State of Israel."

Yosef also writes: "As those whose job is to give expression to the daily life of the resident in the authority in which he lives, while highlighting challenges and obstacles on the one hand and presenting local successes, we often find an open door in the broadcasting corporation to broadcast items offered by us, while other entities, often for reasons Economically, they will choose not to broadcast those items and there is nothing to complain about.
"In light of this, we consider maintaining an independent public broadcasting body that gives a respectable stage even to those important items that supposedly will not generate ratings, an existential necessity in any self-respecting democracy."
Last week, an emergency conference was held to combat damage to the corporation here, under the title "We will not allow the elimination of public broadcasting".
The conference was attended by hundreds of journalists and editors from various media.
Speakers included the Chairman of the Organization of Journalists Nurit Kanti, CEO of News 12 Avi Weiss, News 13 journalist Ayala Hasson, Kaan 11 and Reshet B journalist and member of the corporation's employee committee Yoav Karakovski, "Ovda" and News 12 journalist Ilana Dayan, Chairman of the Documentary Makers Forum Hagit Ben Ya'akov, and journalist here 11 Yigal Guetta. In addition, words of support for the corporation filmed by the Vice President and Head of the News Department at the European Broadcasting Union, Liz Corbin, were screened. The event was moderated by 103FM journalist Anat Davidov. At the end of the conference, dozens of journalists left and female journalists for a protest march against Minister Karai's intention to close the corporation, and blocked part of Ibn Gvirol Street in Tel Aviv.
