Yesterday's vote in the Senate is a decisive step for the inclusion of abortion in the Constitution
", welcomed Anne Hidalgo this Thursday, February 2 on Twitter, the day after a surprise vote at the Luxembourg Palace.
With 166 votes in favor and 152 against, the senators voted in favor of the inclusion of a woman's "
freedom
" to have an abortion.
Remember that since the Veil law of 1974, abortion is included in the Public Health Code in article L2212-1, authorizing the termination of a pregnancy up to 14 weeks.
A favorable vote which is surprising.
Twice, on October 19 and then on January 25, the Senate Law Commission opposed the draft law of the Insoumis to mention the “
right to abortion in the Constitution
”.
The senator, rapporteur for the text, Agnès Canayer (LR), then deplored “
a false good idea
” which will not “
reinforce the effectiveness of abortion
”.
