After refusing for months, President Alberto Fernández gave in to the requests of Kirchnerism and Sergio Massa and
will convene a political table to discuss the electoral strategy
of the Frente de Todos.
Why are you doing it now?
“It is common for these tables to be set up for campaigns.
Now it is a bit anticipated because Alberto sees the possibility of seating everyone and that everyone is committed to unity above all, " one of the ministers closest to the President
told
Clarín .
The President acted after the internal fight worsened, but
he drew up a call that will anger his partners
.
In the Casa Rosada they announced that the call that will be broadcast next week includes invitations to governors, piqueteros and trade unionists.
That decision involves some problems.
The governors have already shown that they do not intend to take an interest in the fate of the Frente de Todos at the national level.
With the announcement of La Rioja,
there are already 15 provinces that will separate the provincial elections from the national fight
.
Some will do it because of legal impositions, but most do it to protect themselves from the electoral punishment that they expect for the national government.
In turn, social organizations, which are represented in the Government with important positions and also seats in Congress, carry a long-proven stigma in different elections:
they do not have votes
.
The same thing happens to the trade unionists, with which the electoral strategy table organized by the President will have three legs that -by his own decision or due to involuntary deficiencies-
will have almost zero relevance in the results of August and October
.
Strictly speaking, the situation could become even worse: despite the fact that they will not interfere in the development of the national election, governors, social movements and trade unionists
will be able to give their opinion and condition
the strategic decisions of a space that already has enough problems to look for new ones
The President knows that no matter how much he increases the number of seats, he will never get decisive support.
In the Frente de Todos there are almost no leaders who are promoting his re-election
.
But it is also true that adding diners also guarantees more people who would prefer to see Cristina Kirchner retired.
That is why it is committed to mass meetings in which the hard core of Kirchnerism is liquefied.
In the Frente de Todos there was already a smaller and more operational polling station than the one that was diagrammed now, and made up of Sergio Massa, Axel Kicillof, Santiago Cafiero, Máximo Kirchner and Wado de Pedro, but that mechanism exploded during the closing of the lists for the 2021 election and ended up pulverized with the result of that electoral shift.
That is the dilemma of the ruling party: everyone there knows that their only chance to remain competitive is to preserve unity, but any of the names that have already announced that they want to be candidates have generated rejection or, worse still, indifference.
