After a new debate on several projects to advance the elections in Peru in the face of the crisis that the country is experiencing, Congress rejected the measures this Thursday.
"With 75 votes against, the #Plenary of Congress rejected the minority opinion of bills 1897, 1918, and others, regarding the constitutional reform for the advancement of general elections and the referendum to call a constituent assembly," he published. Parliament on Twitter.
This Wednesday, Congress had already rejected another constitutional reform project that sought to advance the elections.
The proposal of the president of the Constitution Commission and deputy for Fuerza Popular, Hernando Guerra García, obtained 68 votes against, 54 in favor and 2 abstentions.
Government of Peru presents to Congress a project to advance elections for October 2023
This decision by parliament led President Dina Boluarte to present hours later a proposed constitutional reform that proposes the advancement of elections in Peru for October 15, 2023, according to the Andina state news agency.
That Executive bill contains four transitory provisions.
The first establishes that the acting president concludes her term on December 31, 2023, while the congressmen would do so on December 29 of the same year.
The second transitory provision establishes that the president elected in 2023 would assume his position on December 31, 2023 and would conclude his term on July 28, 2028, while the elected congressmen would assume their positions on December 29 of that year and Their terms would end on July 26, 2028.
