A double record.
Guinness World Records officially recognized Bobi as the oldest dog in the world on February 1.
He has just dethroned the 23-year-old chihuahua Spike, recognized just a few weeks ago.
But Bobi also becomes the oldest dog ever.
The last record was held by an Australian Cattle Dog who died in 1939 at age 29.
Who is Bobi?
Bobi is a Rafiero de Alentejo, a breed of sheepdog, and is 30 years and 268 days old (266 days at the time of official recognition).
This large breed of dog (also called the Alentejo Mastiff) is renowned for being resistant and rustic.
Bobi's proud owner, Leonel Costa, said his dog is in good health, although his vision and mobility are certainly not that of a youngster.
Our "record dog" leads a quiet life in the countryside, in a village in the canton of Leira, Portugal.
He has lived in total freedom since he was born, he has never worn a leash or a harness.
He walks between the farm and the surrounding forests.
He is a purebred dog, from a long line.

How was this record validated?
Bobi was registered with the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leira, after his birth on May 11, 1992. His date of birth was also verified and validated by a Portuguese government authorized pet database managed by the National Union of Veterinarians, SIAC.
Bobi is a beautiful 84-year-old octogenarian, if we had to compare to the age of a human.
We wish him to celebrate these 31 springs next May.
