A week has passed since the horrifying massacre on the main street of the Neve Ya'akov neighborhood, which claimed the lives of seven people, and it seems that the moments of terror experienced by the residents are still present in the area of the attack.

The mourning notices and the many Pushkivils that paint the fences of the school and the nearby kindergarten are especially present in the landscape, and even the candles of the soul have long been covered by the rain and have not yet been thrown in the trash.

"Everyone is shocked by what happened, still digesting. There are seven people in every second building here - and at any given moment people from all corners of Israeli society come to visit," shares Meir, a resident of the neighborhood.

"Earlier Ben Gvir was here and visited - a large part of the posters you see are invitations for visits by rabbis in the area."

During the week, the electricity was cut off in the home of one of the families who is sitting seven hours due to the attack.

In a matter of minutes, enough money was raised through spontaneous crowdfunding to cover the electricity bill - at least for the next year and in the future, we also bought them new heaters and food to fill the refrigerator.

"Immediately after the attack, this neighborhood received a huge hug," says Daniel Katzenstein, a driver of the Rescue Union who was at the scene of the incident.

The interview with him was interrupted in the middle when he received an urgent call to treat a child who was choking.

Without missing a moment - he started running towards the point he had received, and only after making sure that another team had arrived at the scene, did he free himself to continue: "There are calls all the time, 24/7 - but like what we experienced on Friday night? It didn't happen to me. I heard at the center 'active shooting "'Active shooting' and I ran outside with a bulletproof vest and a helmet."

Daniel can't get the difficult scenes out of his memory.

When he goes back, he demonstrates with his empty hands the actions he took, which saved the lives of two injured people: "Everyone here went through a great trauma. The residents saw horrible sights here that will be hard to forget."

In his second role, Daniel is responsible for the neighborhood's resilience, which was especially shaken by the incident.

"Working around the clock to create a sense of security for the citizens. Just this morning we brought a new 'minibulance' vehicle that will know how to get to events very quickly, it will go around the neighborhood and when needed it will arrive first. And the donations? Crowdfunding on an unprecedented scale. The people of Israel are opening up to this neighborhood and the residents."

"This is what unity looks like."

Leaving one of the apartments of the murdered, a large group of boys continues towards the central square, waving Israeli flags and singing "The people of eternity are not afraid of a long journey".

The dozens of boys who sing loudly in the arena, arrived this morning from Merkaz Rabbi Yeshiva, which itself experienced a horrific attack in 2008 in which eight students were murdered.

According to Rabbi Ben Zion Ben Fazi who accompanied them - the students organized themselves completely to come and support the families: "This is exactly the time to show this painful neighborhood that we are with them and do not leave them even for a moment. Even in difficult moments we give them a big hug and know that this is what unity looks like."

Residents of the neighborhood still stop for a moment by the candles or the round wreath that stood at the scene of the attack before continuing to pick up the children from kindergarten.

It will take some more time until the wounds heal and someone decides to remove the remaining wax from the candles, but with extraordinary gratitude they testify that if it weren't for the warm and enveloping embrace they received from all over the country - the community itself could not bear the tragedy.
